3. How We Use Information

  • Create and manage your account, review applications, and verify that members are 18 or older.
  • Run the community: show profiles, deliver messages, organize events and walks, and confirm RSVPs.
  • Send push notifications you have enabled (see Section 7) and emails about your account, safety, and legal matters. We do not send text messages.
  • Keep members safe: review reports, enforce our Terms and community guidelines, block abusive accounts, preserve evidence, and respond to legal requests and takedown notices.
  • Protect the Services: detect abuse, enforce rate limits, investigate security incidents, and keep audit records of administrator actions.
  • Improve and maintain the Services, including fixing errors and, only if you consent, understanding how the app is used.
  • Comply with law and enforce our rights.

We do not use your personal information for targeted advertising, we do not sell it, and we do not use your private messages to train artificial intelligence models.

4. What Other Members See

  • Your profile is visible to approved members. Other members can see your photo, first and last name, city, bio, interests, membership tier, member-since date, job or school, relationship status (with a "Mama" label if you choose it), and the social media links you add. Members cannot see your email address, phone number, birth year, last-active time, food allergies, or your application answers.
  • Food allergies you list are visible only to our Founder and the host of events you RSVP to.
  • Others see your birthday as month and day only.
  • Your email address, phone number, and home address are not shown to other members.
  • Meeting spots and exact addresses for events and walks are shown only to confirmed attendees.
  • Messages and photos are visible only to the people in that conversation, event, or album.
  • Members can tag you in photos from events. You can remove your own tag at any time, and you can hide tagged photos from your profile.
  • If you block a member, she can no longer see your profile, messages, RSVPs, photos, or activity.

5. How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share information only in these situations:

  • Service providers who process information for us under agreements that limit their use of it:
  • Fastshot (the app-development platform that provisions and manages our database, authentication, file storage, real-time updates, and server functions) and its infrastructure provider Supabase
  • Authentication email provider for sign-up and password-reset emails
  • Resend (or similar) for administrator alert emails
  • Cloudflare Turnstile for bot protection at sign-up and sign-in
  • Apple Push Notification service and Google Firebase Cloud Messaging to deliver push notifications
  • Google and Apple, if you choose to sign in with them
  • Cloudflare, which hosts our public web pages and handles our domain and email forwarding
  • Weather and maps. To show walk weather we send only the event's location (not yours) to the U.S. National Weather Service. Map images are requested through our own server, so the map provider does not receive your device's IP address or identity. When our Founder creates events, address suggestions come from Geoapify and route elevation comes from the U.S. Geological Survey. All of these are requested through our server, and none of them receives member information.
  • Safety and legal reasons. We may disclose information to law enforcement or other parties when we believe in good faith it is required by law or necessary to protect someone's safety, to report suspected child exploitation to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, or to respond to valid legal process or takedown notices.
  • Administrators. A small number of authorized administrators can access private information only for defined purposes (such as reviewing applications or reports). Administrator access to private data is logged. Our platform provider's authorized personnel and tools may also access our systems as needed to operate and support the Services.
  • Business changes. If we merge, are acquired, or sell assets, information may transfer under this Policy's protections.
  • With your direction or consent.

6. Data Retention

We keep information only as long as needed for the purposes above. Our current schedule:

Information How long
Active account data While your account is open
Deleted accounts Personal profile data, messages, and age records are deleted when you delete your account (allowing a short period for backups to age out, 30)
Declined applicants' data (including application photo) 30 days
Waitlisted applicants' data 90 days, then deleted unless you are approved
Applications from people under 18 Not stored
Application birth year Removed when you are approved; only month and day are kept
Reports, takedown records, and evidence of reported content 3 years after the report is resolved (reported child sexual abuse material is kept for at least 1 year, or longer if the law or a legal hold requires). These records are kept even after an account is deleted, without links to the reporting member's personal profile
Administrator audit logs 2 years
Anonymous form IP addresses (takedown and copyright forms) Stored only as a salted one-way hash and deleted after about 24 hours
Rate-limit and security counters Up to 1 day
Expired account-activation links Deleted on a schedule
Backups 30 days

We may keep information longer if the law requires, to resolve disputes, or for a legal hold.

7. Push Notifications

If you allow notifications, we store a device notification token so we can send them. Notifications contain limited information (for example, that you have a friend request or that event details are unlocked). They never include meeting locations or addresses on your lock screen. You can turn notifications off at any time in your device settings or in the App's notification preferences. We delete your notification token when you sign out or delete your account.

8. Your Choices and Rights

  • Access and download: you can view and download your information in the App or by emailing privacy@socalsisterhood.com.
  • Correct: edit your profile at any time in the App.
  • Delete: delete your account in Settings. We will delete your information as described in Section 6. If your name appears in our records of events before you joined, or in a photo tag, and you want it removed, email privacy@socalsisterhood.com.
  • Profile content: you decide what to add to your profile, and you can edit or remove it at any time.
  • Analytics: off unless you opt in. Change your choice at any time in Settings.
  • Notifications and permissions: change them in your device settings.
  • Block and report: use the in-app tools on any profile, message, post, photo, or event.
  • Intimate images shared without your consent: use our takedown page. We will remove valid reported content within 48 hours.

10. Photos and Metadata

We remove location and camera metadata from photos you upload before they are stored. Photos you share are visible to the people in the relevant conversation, event, or album.
